About Stand
Stand is a new technology and insurance company revolutionizing how society assesses, mitigates, and adapts to climate risks. Our leadership team has extensive experience in insurance, technology, and climate science: building billions in market value at prior ventures. At Stand, we are rethinking how insurance enables proactive, science-driven resilience.
Existing insurance models often rely on broad exclusions, leaving homeowners without options. At Stand, we leverage advanced deterministic models and cutting-edge analytics to provide personalized risk assessments—helping homeowners secure coverage and take proactive steps toward resilience.
The Mandate: Stand is building a new kind of climate-focused insurer, with capital discipline at its core. The Head of Finance Operations will own Stand’s internal finance function — bringing rigor, control, and clarity to every financial process that underpins our growth.
This is an inward-facing, operational finance leadership role that ensures Stand runs with discipline and accuracy. You’ll oversee the financial backbone of the business (accounting, FP&A, budgets, filings, compliance) that makes it possible for Stand’s outward-facing capital markets strategy to thrive.
What You’ll Do:
Finance Function Leadership
Own Stand’s core finance activities: forecasting, reporting, budgeting, burn management, SaaS/vendor spend.
Build and maintain financial models for revenue, growth, expense structure, and scenario planning.
Manage disciplined expense processes — ensuring every dollar is accountable and aligned with growth priorities.
Accounting & Controls
Oversee accounting and financial controls (directly or by managing a CPA/controller).
Ensure timely and accurate closes, audits, and investor reporting.
Maintain strong financial hygiene across captive, reciprocal, and corporate entities.
Entity & Compliance Management
Manage filings, compliance, bank accounts, and statutory/regulatory reporting for insurance entities.
Ensure reporting integrity across multiple regulated entities.
Partner with auditors, regulators, and external accounting providers.
Strategic Finance & Partnering
Translate financials into operating levers for leadership decision-making.
Support capital raising, reinsurance negotiations, and strategic planning alongside the CEO and Head of Capital Markets.
Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Underwriting, and Operations to align finance with company priorities.
Profile We’re Looking For
Insurance finance background: MGA, reciprocal, carrier, reinsurer, or insurtech.
Hybrid skillset: controller-level rigor plus finance ops / FP&A capability.
Hands-on operator: able to roll up your sleeves to build models, budgets, and forecasts today — while building a team as we scale.
Strong accounting and reporting experience, ideally with regulated entities.
Track record of managing expenses, establishing scalable finance processes, and keeping financial operations “clean.”
Strategic thinker: able to partner with executives, board, and investors, while also owning detail-level execution.
Entrepreneurial mindset: thrives in ambiguity, bias toward action, and comfort building from zero-to-one.
Non-Negotiables
Insurance finance fluency (not just SaaS/tech accounting).
Ability to own forecasts, budgets, and filings directly.
Trusted operator: ensures financial discipline so capital strategy can run effectively.
Compensation:
The annual base salary range for full-time employees in this position is $175,000 to $200,000 + meaningful Equity Grant.
Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
Additional Benefits:
Comprehensive benefits including above-market Health, Dental, Vision
Weekly lunch stipend
Flexible time off
401k plan
