About the role
As a Data Scientist at Nirvana, you will combine data science expertise with strategic thinking and cross-collaboration to drive impactful healthcare solutions. In this hybrid role, you will analyze patterns, build models, and leverage analytics and machine learning to uncover insights that influence decision-making across the organization. Beyond technical execution, you will consider the broader business landscape, providing business implications to ensure data-driven strategies enhance patient and provider experiences, streamline insurance eligibility checks, and support billers and intake coordinators. This role is perfect for a strategic thinker passionate about using data to drive meaningful change in the healthcare industry.
Location: Austin, TX (In office 3 days per week)
What you’ll do
Analytical Leadership: Conduct in-depth analyses of healthcare data to uncover trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities, providing actionable recommendations to business and product teams.
Model Development: Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models that optimize healthcare eligibility checks and improve operational efficiency.
Feature Engineering: Collaborate with engineering teams to implement data pipelines, ensuring high-quality and scalable data for model training.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product managers, engineers, and healthcare experts to ensure data-driven insights shape product development and strategic decisions.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for enhancing model performance and accuracy, leveraging A/B testing and iterative optimization.
Data Quality: Maintain data integrity through rigorous validation and cleansing processes, ensuring that all data used in models is accurate, reliable, and ethical.
What we’re seeking
Experience: 5+ years of experience in data science, with a focus on strategy, machine learning and predictive modeling.

Technical Skills:
Proficient in Python and relevant data science libraries (e.g., Pandas, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
Experience with SQL and data querying in large datasets.
Familiarity with healthcare data, including EHRs, eligibility data, and insurance systems, is highly desirable.
Proficiency with visualization tools (e.g., Metabase) for communicating insights to non-technical stakeholders.

Strong problem-solving skills with a strategic, outcomes-oriented mindset.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex ideas simply.
A proactive approach to identifying and addressing data and process inefficiencies.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience working in the healthcare or FinTech industry.
A strong sense of empathy toward healthcare professionals, including billers and intake.
Coordinators, and the ability to translate their challenges into actionable data solutions.
