Frontera is reimagining how children with autism and other behavioral health needs get the care they deserve. We bring together world-class clinicians, technologists, and autism specialists to build cutting-edge AI tools that help care teams work smarter and spend more time with the children and families who need them most.
Our platform is HIPAA-compliant and designed for the real-world needs of behavioral health teams - from psychologists to ABA therapists. By combining evidence-based care with powerful technology, we’re expanding access to high-quality services for families everywhere.
Our Mission
Frontera exists to close the care gap: every child, no matter where they live, should be able to access effective behavioral healthcare.
Role Overview
As a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer at Frontera, you’ll own the technical success of our most important clinic implementations and ongoing customer optimizations. You are both a builder and a technical owner in the field - responsible for making complex customer environments work seamlessly with the Frontera platform.
This is a highly technical, customer-facing role that sits at the intersection of engineering, product, and implementation. You’ll embed with key clinic partners during implementation and optimization phases, diagnosing gaps in configuration, data flow, integrations, and workflow design - and then directly building and shipping the solutions to resolve them.
Where traditional roles escalate or hand off, you execute. Where others identify problems, you own the full path to resolution.
You’ll become deeply fluent in how different clinic types operate, translating clinical and operational workflows (intake, scheduling, staffing, billing, reporting) into scalable technical implementations. Your work will directly shape both customer outcomes and the evolution of the core platform.
This is not a “solutions consulting” or coordination-heavy role. You will write production-grade code, build and maintain integrations, debug production issues in customer environments, and contribute to architectural decisions based on what you learn in the field.
Own Technical Outcomes Across Customer Implementations
- Lead end-to-end technical execution for key clinic partners during implementation and post-launch optimization.
- Translate complex clinical and operational workflows into scalable technical designs and implement them directly.
- Build and maintain integrations across customer systems (EHRs, scheduling, billing, data pipelines), ensuring reliability and correctness in real-world usage.
- Identify and resolve gaps between intended platform configuration and actual customer performance through hands-on engineering work.
Eliminate Friction and Accelerate Delivery
- Act as the primary technical owner for complex customer issues that would otherwise require coordination across multiple internal teams.
- Make fast, independent decisions on implementation approach by developing deep fluency in platform architecture and configuration patterns.
- Build reusable technical patterns (integration templates, workflow modules, deployment playbooks) that improve speed and consistency across customers.
Shape the Forward Deployed Engineering Function
- Help define the operating model for forward deployed engineering at Frontera, including tooling, standards, and deployment methodology.
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Customer Success to ensure field learnings directly inform roadmap and platform design.
- Contribute to scaling the function by documenting patterns and mentoring future forward deployed engineers as the team grows.
What You Bring
Experience
- 5–8+ years of experience in software engineering, solutions engineering, or technical customer-facing roles with significant hands-on building responsibility.
- Proven experience owning and delivering complex technical implementations end-to-end in production environments.
- Strong background translating ambiguous operational workflows into concrete technical systems and integrations.
- Experience working across APIs, data systems, and backend services without relying heavily on separate engineering teams.
- Experience in healthcare, clinical, or highly operational domains is a strong plus.
Skills & Mindset
- Strong bias toward execution and ownership—you move from problem to working solution quickly.
- Solid engineering fundamentals paired with the ability to communicate clearly with clinical and operational stakeholders.
- Systems thinker who can understand complex workflows and design durable technical solutions.
- Comfortable operating as the primary technical interface in customer conversations and as the customer voice internally.
- High accountability, low ego, and a focus on measurable customer outcomes.
AI Competency (Required)
- Comfortable using modern AI tools to accelerate development, documentation, debugging, and customer delivery workflows.
- Strong judgment around when AI-assisted outputs are sufficient and when human validation is required—especially in clinical or operational contexts.
- Curiosity about applying AI to improve both internal engineering workflows and customer-facing systems.
Tools
Required
- Proficiency in at least one backend language (Python strongly preferred)
- Strong experience with REST APIs and system integrations
- Working knowledge of SQL and structured data systems
Strong Plus
- Experience with CRM or customer success platforms (HubSpot preferred)
- Familiarity with EHR or practice management systems
- Experience with workflow automation or integration platforms
