Finance Operations Associate
Equal Parts
The Company
We are a startup building the biggest insurance brokerage agency in the country that values the importance of fostering deep, personal relationships with clients but is built on a transformative AI platform that enables all team members to do things better and faster for our customers.
The Role
We aren't looking for someone to just "do the books" or "manage the invoicing and vendor payments". We are looking for a systems-thinker and business operations person who wants to understand how a company operates, all the ins and outs of the operational backoffice, a future Department Head who knows how everything works and how it impacts the books. You will be the connective tissue between our sales and development people, our vendors, our customers, and our executive team looking at financial statements.
This role is for the person who gets things done but also finds the time to ask "Why do we do it this way?" and then builds a way to do it 10x faster or automate it altogether. You will touch every part of how this company runs, ensuring that our financial engine is as efficient as our product.
What You’ll Do
- Own the Lifecycle: Manage the full cycle of company "plumbing"—from AP/AR and vendor relationships to cash management and regulatory filings.
- Systemize & Automate: If you have to do a task twice, you should be thinking about how to automate it. You’ll optimize our tech stack to keep us lean.
- Operational Curiosity: Go beyond the spreadsheet. You’ll collaborate across departments to understand how a sale becomes revenue and how an expense becomes growth.
- Audit & Compliance: Interface with regulators and external partners, ensuring we are always "audit-ready" without the last-minute scramble.
Who You Are
- The "Accountant+" Mindset: You have a foundational grasp of GAAP (likely from a few years in audit or corporate accounting), but you understand how business gets done.
- Systems Obsessed: You love clean data, integrated software, and finding "the better way."
- Deeply Curious: You want to know how the gears turn. You aren't satisfied with just juggling data and getting it into the right system; you want to know what that data says about the business.
- Austin-Based: You value the energy of a collaborative office. We work in-person 4 days a week to build culture and move fast, but we offer flexibility that respects you have a life outside of work.
Qualifications
- 2–4 years of experience in Accounting, Finance, or Audit (Big 4 experience is a plus, but not required)
- Alternatively, 4+ years of managing AP/AR operations in a small or medium business
- Strong proficiency in Excel or GSheets
- Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks), A/P software (Rippling) a plus
- Understanding of the insurance industry a plus
We offer medical, dental and vision for all full-time employees, as well as equity participation, flexible hours, in-house gym and café.
