We are looking for an experienced VP of Operations & Finance to help Axion Ray achieve its next phase of growth. This role will be responsible for developing and directing the company’s internal operations (People Ops/HR, Talent Acquisition, Accounting) as well as Finance, inclusive of Fundraising, Investor communications, and FP&A. The VP of Ops/Finance will report on metrics to optimize our growth by understanding where efficiencies exist to maximize scalability throughout the year and beyond. You will work directly with the CEO and Chief Commercial Officer to ensure our operations remain on track to hit our target goals.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an operational and financial business partner; Provide insightful and trusted counsel to the CEO, management team, and Board on both broad business topics related to the overall performance of the company and finance

  • Own preparation for investor relations, inclusive of board meeting document development, fundraising strategy, pitch deck creation, financial modeling, and investor memo development

  • Set and regularly report on well-structured KPIs that include leading and lagging indicators that are tied to the drivers of equity value for the business

  • Firefight a broad range of issues that come up in a growing start-up, covering operations, legal and finance

  • Oversee and lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning process; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes to keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.

  • Own and drive legal negotiations with customers around intellectual property and other important matters, with support from legal counsel

  • Spearhead organizational change initiatives that impact revenue, driving change management efforts to ensure large-scale changes are well-adopted

  • Build, lead, and mentor the Ops & Finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and providing the team with the necessary resources and training for success

  • Support leaders in Talent Acquisition and People Ops/HR in order to ensure we are able to attract and retain top talent

  • Manage the company’s compliance with local and federal regulatory matters

Requirements and skills

  • Experience leading a Ops and/or Finance organization of a B2B software company that has seen scale from $5-10M to $30-50M+ in ARR

  • Exposure to broad and growing operational issues, inclusive of People Ops/HR, Talent Acquisition, and Accounting

  • Comfort in navigating complex legal documents such as Master Services Agreements and Statements of Work, either by redlining or working with legal counsel to quickly and effectively negotiate preferable terms with Enterprise Customers

  • Experience with investor communication, possessing the ability to establish trust and build rapport with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong familiarity with the best practices in revenue recognition, bookings, metrics, quotas, and pricing models in an enterprise SaaS company.

  • Proven ability to plan, budget, model, and forecast with accuracy, and to know at all times where the company is in relation to internal and external models/targets for the current and successive years.

  • Experience hiring, training, motivating, managing, and retaining a diverse and high-performing team.

  • Possesses critical knowledge of federal and multiple state tax laws as well as basic accounting issues

Axion is based in New York, New York with a headquarters in Williamsburg and the team works in a hybrid capacity. This role is expected to work in office at least 3 days weekly.
